Overview
8Rings, formerly HeyRings and EightRings Pro, is developed and operated by OctiCorp. The unified app includes Calendar, Notes, Timers, Habits, Today, Pounds, Recordings, and Lists, with an optional Apple Watch companion. This policy explains how the app handles your information and the choices you have.
8Rings stores your content on your device and does not require a separate account. It does not include the cloud coaching features of the standalone 8Rings Health app. This policy also retains information for the separate Calendar, Lists, Notes, Habits, Timers, and Health editions. The standalone Pounds edition has its own privacy policy.
Information the app handles
Content you create, stored on your device
Your recordings, transcripts, summaries, lists, calendar events, notes, habits, timer data, weight entries, check-in milestones, and settings are stored locally. The Today screen combines this saved information to show your priorities and check-ins. Your content belongs to you.
8Rings does not collect advertising identifiers, usage analytics, location data, or your contacts. It does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Pounds check-ins
In the unified app, you can type or speak your weight, review the value and unit, and save it. Weight entries and preferences are stored on your device. The Pounds voice check-in uses on-device speech recognition; audio is used during recognition and is not saved as a recording. The integrated feature does not use the standalone Health app’s cloud service.
Standalone Health account information
The separate Health edition uses Sign in with Apple for account registration. This does not apply to the unified 8Rings app. See the Health section below.
Speech and on-device processing
8Rings uses Apple’s frameworks for speech recognition, natural-language extraction, and AI summaries. Summaries and other Foundation Models features run on-device when supported hardware, language, settings, and models are available.
For general voice recordings, Apple’s Speech framework may process audio using Apple services, depending on your device and language. Apple’s own privacy policy applies to those services. The app does not send your audio, transcripts, or AI prompts to an OctiCorp content server or a non-Apple AI provider.
The standalone Calendar, Lists, Notes, Habits, and Timers editions also use on-device processing. The separate Health edition uses the cloud services described below.
Standalone Health: Secure Cloud AI
This separate product is not part of the unified 8Rings app.
8Rings Health is coming soon. When launched, it will use a cloud AI service to power its coach, meal-photo analysis, and insights — this will be the one 8Rings app whose AI does not run on your phone. It is engineered so that the service computes answers without keeping your data:
What is sent, and why
- Coach & insights — your profile (name, age, goals, targets) and the day's logged meals, water, exercise, and weight trend are included in the AI request so the coach can respond in context
- Meal photos — the photo you snap is sent for food recognition and nutrition estimates
- Food search — text queries and barcodes are checked against the OpenFoodFacts public database
How it is protected
- No server-side storage of your content — conversations, photos, and health details are processed to generate a response and are not stored on our servers; we retain only aggregate, auto-expiring usage counts for billing
- Sign in with Apple — no passwords; you can hide your email with Apple's private relay
- Encrypted and signed — every request travels over TLS and is cryptographically signed (AWS Signature v4) using short-lived credentials kept in your device's Keychain
- Apple Health stays on your device — the app reads steps, sleep, and workouts locally with your permission; raw HealthKit records are never uploaded, only the derived daily numbers that appear in your coach conversation
To delete your Health account and any server-side account records, use the in-app account deletion option or contact support@octicorp.com.
Audio Recordings
The App requests access to your device's microphone solely to capture voice recordings initiated by you. Microphone access never starts without your active interaction. A recording you start may continue if the App moves to the background so the capture is not lost; stopping or canceling the recording ends microphone use.
Recorded audio files are stored in your app's local sandbox and are not sent to OctiCorp or non-Apple AI providers. Depending on your device and language, Apple's Speech framework may process audio using Apple services, as described above. You can delete individual recordings or all recordings at any time from Settings → Storage → Clear All Recordings.
Storage, deletion, and Watch transfers
8Rings content is stored in the app’s local storage using Apple’s platform protections. The app does not currently provide iCloud sync. Your paired Apple Watch can transfer captured recordings to your iPhone through Apple’s WatchConnectivity framework.
You can delete individual recordings from the Recordings library, or clear recordings through Settings → Storage. Deleting audio does not automatically delete notes, list items, or events already created from it. Delete those items in their respective screens. Weight entries can be managed in Pounds history. Removing the app removes its local app data; keep any copies you need before uninstalling.
We do not keep copies of your 8Rings content on an OctiCorp server. Standalone Health account records and usage counts are described in the Health section.
Subscriptions and payments
The unified 8Rings app uses a trial and in-app subscription. Apple handles purchases through the App Store and StoreKit. OctiCorp does not collect or store your payment details. Subscription status is verified using Apple’s StoreKit framework.
Manage or cancel a subscription in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Standalone editions have their own purchase terms shown in the relevant app and App Store listing; a standalone purchase is separate from an 8Rings subscription.
Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data or content with any third party for any purpose, including advertising.
Across the unified app and standalone editions, the apps use the following Apple system services, which are governed by Apple's own Privacy Policy:
- Apple Speech Framework — voice transcription
- Apple Foundation Models — on-device AI (iOS 26+)
- HealthKit — reading and writing health data in Health, with your permission; never uploaded
- Sign in with Apple — account creation for Health
- StoreKit — subscription management via the App Store
- WatchConnectivity — syncing with the paired Apple Watch apps
The separate Health edition runs on the following infrastructure and data providers:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosts Health's AI service; connections are TLS-encrypted and requests are cryptographically signed
- Amazon Bedrock (Anthropic Claude) — processes Health's AI coaching requests to generate responses; not used for model training by us
- OpenFoodFacts — public food and barcode database queried by Health's food search
We do not integrate any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash reporting services that transmit data externally.
Children's Privacy
8Rings is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@octicorp.com and we will take steps to delete it.
Your Rights & Choices
Access and deletion
Because your content is stored locally on your device, you have complete control. You can view, edit, and delete any content directly within each app at any time. Deleting an app removes all associated on-device data. Health additionally offers account deletion, which removes your registration records from our servers.
Microphone permission
You can revoke microphone access at any time via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → 8Rings (or HeyRings in an earlier version). Revoking microphone access disables recording features but does not affect other functionality.
Subscriptions
You can cancel your subscription at any time through the App Store. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
